Clutha Valley Primary School

We are proud to be working with the Ministry of Education and the Clutha Valley Primary School community delivering their new school in Clydevale.

On Wednesday 14th September, we celebrated the official sod-turning ceremony. The function began with a Karakia, the national anthem, respects to the late Queen Elizabeth II and acknowledgement of local culture and history.

Construction will begin in the coming weeks.

Kings High School - Winners!

Kings High School were the winners of a Logic Group hosted Quiz evening.

It was a big week for Orlando as the day previous, he was announced as Kings High School Class Act.

Otago Polytechnic Cancer Ball 2022

Logic Group attended the 2022 Otago Polytechnic Cancer Ball on September 2nd at the Dunedin Town Hall. It was great to see that this event was a success for the Otago/Southland Cancer Society, after the last two years being cancelled due to COVID-19.

Mercy Hospital and Logic Relationship Continues

Logic Group have been engaged on various projects for the last five years at Mercy Hospital. Although all occur within the operational facility, some are scheduled to coincide during the Christmas shut-down period to reduce the ‘out of service’ period. Our latest projects are PACU and Theatre 7.

On Friday 12 ^th August, our Dunedin team equipped with shovels, hammers, and power tools headed to a Kainga Ora residential site to built garden plots and compost bins.

We left the built garden beds full of soil for the residents to plant out in vegetables and herbs when the weather gets a bit warmer.

Ravensbourne School Celebration Lunch

We celebrated the successful completion of the 5YA projects at Ravensbourne School today with a fish/hotdog and chips lunch for the students.

The projects consisted of a re-roof, new learning support coordinator office, upgraded toilets, new sewage system, new clearlite roof for the pool and new accessibility rails for the handrails.

Lloyd, our project manager, really enjoyed working with the school.

St Pauls Cathedral Projects

Work is ongoing at St Pauls Cathedral in Dunedin, with the insurance reinstatement project following the fire in the Apse in August 2020.

It is expected that these works will be completed September 2022.

Other projects including redevelopment of the ground floor are currently in the early planning stages.

Ceilidh in Dunedin

Sam Cadden, our Logic Southern Director, along with other Haggis Protection Society members are gathering on Saturday 25th June to host a ceilidh (pronounced KAY-Li) event. A ceilidh is a traditional Scottish dance.

If last years event is anything to go by, it will be a fun and energetic evening!

Milestone Reached at He Toki Kai Te Rika

The installation of laminated veneer lumber (LVL) marks a significant milestone at the recently named Otago Polytechnic Trades Training Centre, He Toki Kai Te Rika.

The building is being built to keep up with the expected growth in the number of students pursuing building and construction qualifications, as well as to give the facility more capacity to deliver apprenticeship programmes.

Ngā iti Kahurangi - Ministry of Education Programme

Ngā iti Kahurangi is the te reo name for the Ministry's remote schools programme. The name directly translates to “small and highly-valued treasures”.

This translation perfectly suits the children at Lake Brunner School that left thank you notes for the contractors working at their school.

Messages included:

'dear amazing workers, thank you for making our school better, I really like it'.

'thank you for everything that you did'

'thank you for bringing acoustic panels and new lights, and new security plugs. They were so cool and so safe'.

Kāinga Ora Community Flats Completed

The final residents are moving into the two block renovated flats in Maitland Street in Dunedin.

Logic Group was responsible for partnering with Kāinga Ora and project managing the refurbishment on their behalf.

We were proud to be part of the team that handed over warm, dry homes to the families that live there.

Kings High School - 'Building Men for Life'

Logic Group has recently been engaged by Kings High School as their preferred Project Manager, delivering their 5YA projects.

Projects include Te Whãitua Mãori (refurbishment of 2 classrooms and a new entry), a weathertightness project on their technical block and the upgrade of the school gymnasium.

New Name for Otago Polytechnic Training Centre

Logic Group have been partnering with Otago Polytechnic to project manage the new Trades Training Centre.

It will now be known as He Toki Kai Te Rika 'a tool for your hand', a name given by local Maori.

He Toki Kai Te Rika is located at Otago Polytechnics main Dunedin Campus.

Ngā iti Kahurangi - Improving Classrooms in Small or Remote schools

The Ministry of Education is improving the internal environment of up to 600 state schools that are small or remote. Logic Group is proud to be of the suppliers of this programme.

The programme looks to improve lighting, noise, temperature and energy efficiencies. Improvement may include LED's, acoustic panel and thermal insulation in the ceilings.

The programme may also install residual current devices (RCD's) at the same time and support state primary schools to update their Asbestos Management Plans.

Education Minister Hipkins visited Otago Polytechnic today to view the new Trades Training Centre construction project. The new Training Centre is expected to be completed in October 2022 and will employ circa 200 tradespeople during construction.

Creating more quarantine space for desperately needed international students will depend on demand, Education Minister Chris Hipkins says.Mr Hipkins made a flying visit to Dunedin yesterday to check progress on Otago Polytechnic’s $31.7million Trades Training Centre project.

His southern call came amid concern over the impact on the education sector from plummeting international student numbers in the wake of Covid-19.

This week, Invercargill MP and former Southern Institute of Technology chief executive Penny Simmonds said universities and polytechnics were expecting big deficits this year and would continue to suffer financially if they did not get a significant intake of foreign students.

"If we don't start getting some students in soon, and certainly if we don't get them in by first intake 2022, we're going to see this going out for another two years," Ms Simmonds said.

Logic Group – Alps to Ocean Adventure

Seven riders, along with a very supportive crew member/driver, recently completed the 306km Aoraki (Mt Cook) to Oamaru – Alps to Ocean ride.

This adventure could be undertaken over a ‘relaxed’ 7-8 day period, a ‘classic’ 6 day adventure or a ‘fast’ 4 day ride…..from the Alps to Ocean it should have been all down hill so decided to do it in 3 days!!!!!!

What could go wrong – one rider had 5 weeks experience, one had done no training, one hadn’t ridden a bike for 20 years, one of our beer drinking, and rugby playing member decided to use an electric bike (a humiliation of which he will be reminded for years to come!).

This motley crew set off bright eyed and bushy tailed – 3 days later a bit worse for wear, some great yarns…and some battered bodies….but still bright eyed and bushy tailed…completed the ride!

Kāinga Ora Retrofit Programme

Early 2021, Logic Group were engaged to assist Kāinga Ora with their retrofit programme in Otago/Southland and the West Coast.

Kāinga Ora are committed to make their housing stock warmer, drier and healthier to help improve the wellbeing of their customers.

Their objective is to bring the homes up to, or above, new building standards and add another 50 years of life to the property.

Improvements vary from home to home, although all include full insulation (walls, ceilings and floor), double glazing, improved airtightness, ventilation and new heating.

We are proud to be part of this initiative.

Thrilled with completed Kainga Ora flat

Work is well underway at the Maitland Street, Dunedin, Kāinga Ora social housing units.

One of the two 1960's social housing blocks has been modernised having all new plumbing, insulation, wiring, kitchens and bathrooms.

The first block of 14 one-bedroom and two bedroom units were managed by one of our local Project Managers, Cameron Olsen.

The second block is about to commence its refurbishment.

Otago Polytechnic Trades Training Centre

Logic Group is proud to partner with Otago Polytechnic to deliver their new Trades Training Centre on their Forth Street Campus in North Dunedin.

The Trades Training Centre will provide a specialist and fit for purpose centre for Engineering programmes with general reception, amenity, and staff areas. The proposed building is comprised of three levels with a double height atrium and has a floor area of 3,600m2.

Otago Polytechnic O Block

Work continues to go well at Otago Polytechnic. The milestone of completing the roof on the second wing of the new O Block extension is in sight, with the new roofing iron on the main roof section now complete.

Wall framing will continue along the last structural steel installation in the coming week.

Clearwater Apartments

Congratulations Hayward College Team

Well done to the 57 or so contractors responsible for the speedy refurbishment of the University of Otago’s Hayward College have gained the best team award at this year’s Property Council New Zealand southern excellence awards, held in Christchurch.

Hayward was originally developed from the old Queen Mary Maternity hospital in 1992 and the brief for the project team, led by Logic Group, was to refresh the hall of residence during the 2018 university summer break.Time was tight, and demolition started less than three months before 174 students were scheduled to move in.

Property Council chief executive Leonie Freeman and Logic Group director Sam Cadden hold the best team award.
